SILVERSTONE BY OPTOS- In 2021 we proudly had the first Silverstone device in the world installed in a practice. The Silverstone is the most powerful tool yet for examining the retina. The only ultra-widefield retinal imaging device with integrated, UWF-guided swept source OCT (Optical Coherence Tomography)! The Silverstone produces a 200° single-capture image in less than ½ second and enables guided OCT scanning across the retina. The Silverstone ventures into the far periphery, bringing peripheral retinal tears and detachments into sharp focus. It enables us to scan and analyse parts of the retina that we can’t see with our hand-held equipment.

ANGIOVUE OCT BY OPTOVUE – At Radlett Opticians we were early adopters of OCT scanners to view the retina in slices similar to an MRI scanner. Our first machine was purchased in 2007 which was unique for a community based optometric practice. We have constantly upgraded our OCT and now have the gold standard for Optical Coherence Tomography Angiography, which is a non invasive 3D imaging system to view the blood flow and the retina at the back of the eye. It is used extensively by our optometrists to detect Macula degeneration and glaucoma. The technology is extremely useful in observing the progression of such diseases over time.

The OCT can also be used for anterior eye examinations for instance when managing narrow angle glaucoma, issues with cataracts/Intra ocular lenses, corneal injuries, Keratoconus or fitting complex contact lenses due to the cross sectional and 3D images it produces.

ERG BY DIOPSYS – Electroretinography measures the function of living cells. Retinal cells send electric messages to the brain and in certain diseases they can dysfunction so the ERG measures this dysfunction and show recovery of dysfunction following treatment. We are one of a few Optical practices in the UK with this device.

It is especially useful for the diagnosis and management of Glaucoma, Hydroxychloroquine toxicity, diabetic maculopathy and general optic nerve function especially in multiple sclerosis..

IDRA BY SBM FOR DRY EYES– Ocular Surface Analysis Device for detection of anterior segment. The device is the world’s first comprehensive diagnostic tool for high quality tear film analysis. With this device we can see assess the lipid layer important for preventing water evaporation. The device allows us to observe the loss of lipid producing meiobomian glands. The results are summarised in a traffic light grading giving the practitioner and patient the reason for the causes of dry eye symptoms and how different treatment approaches can benefit a particular patient.

Depending on the outcome of the analysis we will suggest a variety of treatment options such as dry eye drops, wipes, heat masks or IPL E-eye treatment.

KERATRON SCOUT BY OPTIKON– The Keratron Scout is extremely useful for contact lens fittings and monitoring the curvature of the front of the eye. This topographer maps irregular astigmatism that sometimes forms at the front of the eye (cornea), in conditions such as Keratoconus or Pellucid Marginal Degeneration.

The Keratron Scout is particularly important for Ortho K lens fittings. Ortho K patients become very familiar with not only the device but the changes that happens on their corneal surface.
